Keywords and Keyphrases

Possibly one of the biggest parts of SEO, it's not magic, it's just making sure your content contains the words and phrases that your target audience is most likely to search for when looking for your services.

A couple of questions often asked:

Should I write the content of my webpage for my users or for the search engines? Always write your content of your page for your users, after all they are the ones who will be reading it and it must appeal to. The required keyphrases should mostly be within the content if we've got the structure right and if they aren't then it won't take too much to advise you on how to add them in.

What are "long tail keyphrases"?
Long tail keyphrases are basically phrases that contain several key words rather than just a couple and are basically what users will be searching for in search engines. For example:

  • a keyword would be "Design"
  • a keyphrase would be "Design Company"
  • a long tail keyphrase would be "Design Company in Cambridge"

Each webpage is structured to include areas for information to be added to give specific detail to the page – this is called META DATA. This includes:

The title of the page: This is exactly what it says and should act as the title to the topic of the page or area of the site.

The Description of the page: Again, what it says, this should be the summary, or description, of the page and what it's about.

Keywords: Although these are said not be used by search engines they can be included and are just a list of the key words and phrases that the page should be found for.
